Checklist For Getting Started In Boudoir Photography

Have you ever considered starting your own boudoir photography business, but just aren't sure how or where to start? Follow this quick checklist to get your business -- and your dream -- off up the ground!

1. Experiment - Play around with TONS of practice shoots, and explore your own style. Don't brand yourself or your business until you know just what vision you're going for.

2. Prioritize - Especially when it comes to your investments, you need to be very precise with your priorities. When starting your business, figure out if you have all the proper equipment needed to be a succesful professional photographer before you even begin to think about advertising.

3. Hone Those Skills - If you're serious about this, practice makes perfect. You need to be shooting multiple times a week, and figure out your strengths and weaknesses.

4. Do Your Research - Dig around your favorite photographers' websites, and look at things like style, pricing, availability and all the tiny details. If you have the funds, consider hiring advertising or legal help to work on the fine print in your business.

5. Build Your Portfolio - Choose only the hottest photos in your repertoire, and edit them to perfection! You'll need a killer portfolio to show off before anyone will hire you for your services.

6. Know Your Clients - If you're getting into Boudoir, you're going to be working with more than just "women" - there's brides, anniversary celebrators, young 20-somethings, bachelorettes - there are tons of demographics! Study what each one wants, and make sure you're providing it.
