Male vs. Female Boudoir Photographers

Some Boudoir clients may have a tough time choosing between a male and female photographer when they book a session. There are certainly pros and cons to both, and we’ve laid them out for you so you can make the most informed decision when booking your next Boudoir session!

With a female photographer, many women may naturally feel more comfortable. Knowing that their body isn’t anything new to the photographer may ease any qualms about showing a little skin. If you’re wanting your shoot to be on the softer, more delicate side, female photographers tend towards the more elegant, sensual type of Boudoir photography. Though hair and makeup is usually included in the form of a professional cosmetologist, a female photographer may be better suited to help you identify the perfect style you’re going for in your shoot.

Male photographers may not be the first thing to pop into your head when you think of Boudoir, but there are many pros to going this route that you may have never thought of. For one, it’s usually easier to feel flirtatious and sexy with a male in the room. Your male photographer would be able to give you better feedback on what looks good and what doesn’t, and if you’re giving your Boudoir shoot as a gift to a male significant other, your male photographer could better guide you through what he thinks looks sexiest. If you’re going for a Maxim-bombshell type of shoot, a male photographer may have a better eye for this as well, though male photographers can also be great at the feminine, elegant shoots as well.

Ultimately, of course, which photographer you end up with will be completely based on your own comfort. Its truly the skill of the photographer that makes a difference. And we should note that, based on your sexual orientation, the advice above may be flip flopped! Go with whatever photographer’s portfolio appeals to you the most.
