The Best Lipstick Tricks

You don't have to be a professional makeup artist to get lipstick tricks from. All you need is a good product, a determined eye, and these few tips!

1. Start smooth.

Exfoliate your lips with a toothbrush to rid your lips of any chapped or rough spots. This will help your lipstick go on cleaner and smoother.

2. Lay a foundation.

If you want the exact color that comes out of the tube, you need to start with a blank color rather than the light pink of your lips. To do this, apply a thin layer of foundation across your lips until they blend in with the rest of your skin. This not only gives a good neutral foundation, but will act as a primer to help the color last longer.

3. Make any lipstick long-lasting.

You don't have to break the bank to get long-lasting color. After applying one layer, hold a tissue over your lips and dust a translucent powder over your lips, then apply one more layer. The powder should help set the color and keep it from rubbing off.

4. Choose the right red.

Dark red shades make thin lips look almost non-existent, so if your lips aren't quite as big as Angelina's, go for more of an orange-red shade.

5. Plump up your pout.

Trace your cupid's bow with a flesh-toned liner, and blend upwards. For a fuller lower lip, use an angled eyeliner brush, pick up a touch of matte brown shadow and trace a line outside of the center of the lower lip line.

6. Use the finger blotting trick.

When you're finished painting your lips, put one finger in your mouth, wrap your lips around it, and slowly pull out. This gets rid of any lipstick that may attach itself to your teeth.

7. Find the perfect pink.

For the most natural everyday color, match the shade to the very inside of your lower lip, which should be just a shade darker than your lips.

8. Gloss up old lipstick.

If you have an old color you're getting tired of, freshen it up by topping it off with a similar lipgloss.
